Changing the Name of Deoband Will Not Have Any Impact on Darul-Uloom, Mr MLA

The unrivalled fame and popularity of Deoband is and should be a cause of pride for all of its residents but, unfortunately, there are some elements that do not like the fact that the town is recognised for its association with Islam and Muslims. They want to change its name and replace it with something that can take away its Islamic identity and thus help make it emerge on the world map as an ancient centre of Hinduism.

The most notable European to travel Kashmir over the Banihal range was none other than Francois Bernier, a French physician attached to the Mughal court at Delhi in the 17th century. Conferring on Kashmir the title, ‘paradise of the Indies’, Bernier writes lyrically: “The numberless streams which issue from the mountains maintain the valley and hillocks in the most delightful verdure. The whole kingdom wears the appearance of fertile and highly cultivated gardens. Villages and hamlets are frequently seen through the luxuriant foliage.”

This year university will admit only 102 students in MPhil and PhD courses in comparison to the last year when the university admitted 970 students for the mentioned courses.
