The anonymity of #NotInMyName is laudable

By Ananya S Guha
The ‘Not In My Name’ protest must be seen as an attempt to transcend barriers of caste, religion or race. If the teeming millions of India can come together without a name, then there is a possibility that the monolithic India will give way to that of quintessence.

We watch you sinking –
soon you will be a land
submerged; a
Lost civilisation, Atlantis,
killed, wiped by slow poison.

What is the Right in India aiming for?

By Ananya S Guha
The symbols that I am talking about are now quite explicit. The recurrent ones are Shiva and Parvati. Even the Prime Minister countenances them in public ceremonies or gatherings. The problem with myths is that they are myths. To interface them with historical truths is problematic.

Let’s talk hope after the assembly elections

Those who believe that the entire vision of a country will be reworked under a strong central government must wait and watch. The diversity of the country mustn’t be turned into war cries of separatism, especially on social media, which tend to fuel such tendencies.

Demonetisation and Technology

By Ananya S Guha
To educate the rural poor in technology, it is important to impart education, and make them literate in terms of numeracy. The ability to simply sign names is not literacy and certainly not education. Educational imperatives are first and foremost in a country which is not totally and comprehensibly literate.

Our Politicos

By Ananya S. Guha
We can see how the politico actor survived with aplomb in South India. Acting was and is a passion there. And most of the politicians act and very well at that. The image of the actor blended very well with the politician. Both were hero worshipped in two contexts: in life and on celluloid.

Demonetisation: Black to White

By Ananya S Guha
People are dying, heart attacks, money attacks, income tax attacks. Some are committing suicides out of sheer anguish. Some do not have identity cards, or pan cards; they are used to stowing cash in their houses.
